Comments I can see Harrison was deeply loved by his family. I was doing a little online research, I have a letter that Harrison's father sent to my great aunt Ida in 1927. The Shull Family came to America in 1732 and lived in Franklinville NJ. Evidently George Harrison Shull moved from south Jersey to Princeton. I am curious if you are related to Clifford Glenwood Shull the 1994 winner of the Nobel Prize in physics. If you are interested I have some Shull family history that aunt Ida assembled in 1927 with the help of GHS

Comments I wanted to express our sympathy on the death of your father. I met Harrison only once but I could see right away what a special kind of person he was. His aristocratic bearing and his handsome good looks made him immediately noticeable in a crowd. Here is a quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupery that I thought was apt: "Bit by bit, nevertheless, it comes over us that we shall neveragain hear the laughter of our loved one, that this one garden isforever locked against us. And at that moment begins our true mourning, which, though it may not be rending, is yet a little bitter. Fornothing, in truth, can replace that companion. Our 'parents' cannot becreated out of hand. Nothing can match the treasure of common memories,of trials endured together, of quarrels and reconciliations and generousemotions."

Comments I never personally knew Harrison Shull; however, I had the good fortune to befriend his son Stan when we first moved to Seattle in 1991. For many years now, Stan has been a true and loyal friend and is a man of honesty and integrity. If Harrison Shull is, in any way, reflected in the person who is his son, he was truly a wonderful man. May God bless your family during this difficult time.

Comments 14 August 2003 To the family of Professor Harrison Shull: You may be sure that Professor Shull is remembered by faculty members at the Naval Postgraduate School as a scholar and leader of great integrity, wisdom, and effectiveness. He was a person in whom one could confide with trust, and he earned the loyalty of the faculty through his courtesy, reliability, and professionalism. He came at a critical time and showed vision, notably by helping the Department of National Security Affairs gain a first-rate chairman. He was missed when he stepped down as Provost. Please accept this expression of condolences for your great loss.

Comments My sincere condolences to all of you at this very sad moment. Wil and Harry were wonderful Boulder neighbors and political cronies. Harry left a simple, lasting legacy in our Boulder neighborhood where our streets are named for generals which Harry confessed made him unhappy. We lived on Patton Drive. So, Harry worked with the city and the small driveway between the Shull home and the Quist home was named "Gandhi". Gandhi has been extended, by the way. The headlines in the Boulder "Daily Camera" read, "Peacemaker Among Generals". Wil, my love and thoughts are with you.

Comments We enjoyed and valued Harrison's company and support while we lived in California as working scientists from 1989 to 1991, where we made firm, life-long friends with Sarah. Harrison always laughed at the fact that every time we visited Monterey we also visited the aquarium. But we know that as a dedicated chemist he really understood that we, as dedicated biologists, had no choice but to go see those fish every time we had the chance! We were always so grateful that we got to stay at the naval base with Wil and Harrison. Wil and Harrison also extended their hospitality to Greg's mother Judy and her husband Merv when they visited California and the South West for winter and Christmas, 1990. Rhiannon, turning three on October 12th 2003, will never meet Harrison but she will hear about him. We send our condolences to all the Shulls. We know you will be comforted by the fact that Harrison had a spectacular life and had a positive impact on many lives.

Comments Willa, it is always the sweet small things in life that seem to have the bigest impact on us. For years I always saw you and Harrison shopping at Nob Hill. We always talked surrounded by some strange product...but I was really happy to see both of you there, because Harrison always seemed so interested in my life....when you read all of his honors, I think his greatest honor was his wonderfully sweet nature that made you feel special. I send you big hugs Willa. Love, Bella
